1- How you started in real estate.
I’ve been in real estate for about 8 years. I was a professional actor before. In 2008 I decided to wanted to get into a new line of work. I chose to get into real estate and I absolutely love it. I started using video for real estate only a couple of years ago.
2- How do you use videos to market your services and listings.
I use video to connect with my clients on a one on one basis. I did episodic videos with the “30 best businesses” and “My favorite humans in Vancouver”. I do everything on my own EXCEPT for my listings. I hire a professional videographer to showcase my listings.
3- Do you consider video and social media a part of your marketing strategy.
YES absolutely but ultimately you do what works, what is best for you. Provide content that is value for your client. It is a lot of work but any good marketing will require work. I am starting a podcast as well. It’s easier for my series of interviews of my favourite humans in Vancouver.
4- Where do you find ideas for content?
I started with a challenge: 30 videos in 30 days! I also joined the Facebook group RE Video Studio and got a lot of inspiration from this group.
5- Tips for people starting out, who are shy, scared, don’t like how they look or sound…
Figure what your strengths and weaknesses are and adjust. Remember it is just a piece of glass in between you and the audience. Think of someone and talk to that person. On camera you are not your normal self, you need to have a bit more energy. SMILE IS HUGE! Think of Tom Cruise… He smiles all the time!
It takes time. But you get better over time. The learning curve never stops (especially with video editing).
7- Favourite equipment and software (editing tools)
Keep it Simple! Use daylight, an iPhone (I started with an iPhone 5S), a Rode Lavalier Microphone.
I invested in a GIMBO. You will want a tripod. I use a Joby cell phone camera mount. Great content and audio is really important. For editing software, I started with iMovie and moved on to Final Cut Pro. I also have an Insta 360 Camera.
8- How to get ahold of you?
On YouTube!
**Note from Catherine: I LOVE the ” Selling your Home in 2019? Why you should market your house like it’s an HGTV Show” YouTube episode. Must watch.
