How to Shoot Video for Social Media 🎥
1. Make a list of possible videos you could shoot, try a list of 20 ideas. Think of questions your customers always ask.
2. Consider purchasing a tripod so you can hold your smartphone steady while shooting your videos.
3. Look around and find an area that’s nice and bright for lighting, natural light is always the best, look at windows in your house or in the room where you’re shooting the video, or outside. Maybe buy yourself a ring light. You can always look on our website keep it simple social media / Gear List under boot camps for a list of our video gear.
4. Now test your sound out, are you going to wear a lapel mic? Perhaps you have your own earbuds or AirPods.
5. Prepare bullet points of what you want to talk about during your video. It’s OK to have a small piece of paper taped to your tripod, or next to your computer screen so you know what you’re going to talk about and you stay on track.
6. Now go onto your camera and click on video.
7. You can lock your frame by pressing your finger in the middle of the screen and watch for the little yellow box that pops up that says lock. You can also make your photos brighter or darker by sliding your finger up or down on the screen.
8. Remember to look into the camera on your smartphone which is the small little tiny black dot on the end. Never look at yourself in the centre of the screen, because then your eyes are not looking at the person watching the video. You might even tape a little star next to the camera. This is a reminder.
9. Do a quick check by shooting a small five-second video and watch it, look at your lighting, listen to the sound.
10. Remember to smile before you start shooting, your eyes will light up and you will carry a very warm opening to your video.
