Digital Legacy Plan

From online banking to decades worth of digital family photos, copious creative or intellectual property, or personal history documented on social media, we all have a widespread digital footprint that tells the story of our lives. How much of that story remains online after we’re gone? Who will have access to banking, passwords, and important digital records? What about painful or deeply personal elements of our personal or professional legacy?

Your Family’s Digital Legacy

  • An emotional and very personal situation is how you will find yourself if you become responsible for someones digital legacy. Are you prepared?
  • How about access to their online accounts, once they have passed on. Where are those PASSWORDS?
  • WHO knows the PASSWORDS to social media accounts and email accounts? Personal Information…
  • How technical savvy is the person taking over the estate?
  • We have transpired back into Community, something that other cultures are still very entwined in … we now have what is known as Digital Communities
  • Websites, social media, private groups, and blogs… people are finding Comfort in these communities.
  • Today many people learn about DEATH through social media… not the traditional Obituary. Think of “Destination Weddings”
  • Was the person who is now Deceased a Private or Personal online person? This is an important question!
  • If your uncomfortable thinking about a Last Will and Testament because you are still alive, think about it as if you are RETIRING!
  • Digital Stewart… Think about assigning someone that understands technical savvy! (noun. a person who manages another’s property or financial affairs; one who administers anything as the agent of another or others.)
  • Take one small piece of ACTION to move forward!

Think about this…

“One hundred years from now, there will be 1 (2.4) billion dead people on Facebook.” What do your posts say about you in this digital graveyard?
