1. How you started your business
Tracey:
It all started with a home buyer journal where my clients could write all the information about the houses we were visiting together. It was useful and with the realtors’ information on the inside cover, it became a marketing piece.
Our second product was “Sold” and “sale pending” stickers. People loved it. It was different and unique. We started making signs with specific days, something that was missing and helpful.
Shopify is how we launched everything. Now 90% of our business is online. Social media is essential to market our products.
2 &3. You have a spectacular amount of followers on Social Media, I found you on Insta Live, what’s your secret recipe? + You use a lot of UGC, do you simply follow #allthingsrealestate ? How does that work?
Tracey:
Our products were new and needed to be explained and shown. Instagram was the ideal platform. We started researching other accounts and doing product shots. We hired a company called SoGro out of California. They helped us grow our account.
I personally visit everyone’s account who uses our hashtag #allthingsrealestate and engage with them. We also add a card to each shipment asking people to use our hashtag so we can find their images and repost.
Our products help showcase a story. Real estate agents get to add the human side of what is way more than just a sales transaction.
4. One tip you would give to our small business owners.
Tracey:
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes! We are all human. Be your authentic self. It is also what works for social media. Take risks sometimes. Don’t be afraid to take some risks and learn from your mistakes.
Also, focus on your strength as pass along the rest. If you are not techy, hire a web designer. Don’t try to do it all.
5. Are you selling directly from Instagram and/or are you considering doing so?
Tracey:
Yes, Instagram chose us! We were an early adopter. It also works great for brand awareness. The experience is seamless.
6. How about Facebook Advertising
Tracey:
Facebook ads changed everything. We started advertising with an agency with a $500 budget and we were a bit nervous. We were seeing good results and agreed to increase our budget. In December of 2013, we sold $30,000 of products. About two months later, we tripled our sales! We knew it was working. We do about $10,000 to $15,000 of online advertising a month.
We also do email marketing using www.mailchimp.com In a way you “rent” space on social media but you own your email database and your website. Email marketing is important.
In conclusion, how can we buy your products?
We have a store in Portland and we are starting a sales rep program this week! You can go to www.atrestore.com
