If you are a professional you MUST have a LinkedIn profile. LinkedIn is far from dead. LinkedIn is the number one place where recruiters find talent. You can use LinkedIn to reach out to the business community. LinkedIn can be used to build brand awareness, authority in your business, and to drive leads.

LinkedIn might not be as sexy as the other social platforms, but it is the number one space for businesses, with over 500,000 million professionals using the platform.

What’s one of the biggest mistakes you see professionals making on LinkedIn?

Incomplete and outdated profiles. LinkedIn is your personal branding platform, we all have a brand and how we show up matters. First impressions matter. Always managing your reputation. Have you ever GOOGLED your name? Try it, how do you look on LinkedIn. How about your photo, is it outdated? Are you clear about who you are and what you do? Make it interesting. Write your profile in “First Person”  How do you want to be perceived? What does this say about you? Use the background photo to convey your business. Its a big piece of real estate. Video is HUGE on LinkedIn, you get stats and analytics. Video is HOT HOT HOT… sets you apart!

How do you drive real leads using LinkedIn?

Your network is your net worth today on LinkedIn. You need to understand that relationships are an asset to your business. It’s not about quantity or mass numbers of connections, it’s more about the quality of those connections. Change your mindset to building and nurture those relationships. Don’t try to turn every connection into a sale. Most people are building a database and not a network. The more engaged you become, the more top of mind your business will be. Give value first. Jump into a conversation and give your expertise. Understand where the opportunity lies with LinkedIn. Consistency is the key. Build your own authority by establishing your credibility through your knowledge. Share the value of your knowledge.

  • Try shooting a thirty-second VIDEO tip.
  • An event you’ve attended
  • Answer those questions that people keep asking you
  • You don’t always need to be so serious on LinkedIn
  • Give to get on LinkedIn – reach out and recommend businesses
  • Find a great referral partner
  • LinkedIn is a longterm network, you need to earn that trust before you receive any referrals.
  • Be intentional – Show up by being consistent
  • STOP posting external links
  • Try text-only posts
  • Add links to your website – after you’ve posted it, go back and edit. (increase your reach)
