Keep It Simple Social Media

This week I’ve decided to share with you where I believe social media has evolved to in the last year… We know without a shadow of a doubt being on-line is extremely important for a business to compete in today’s market..both with an awesome eye catching, mobile friendly website and with at least one social media account…this is where the eye balls are and keeping your business visible from time to time is how you stay alive.

I don’t think one network fits all businesses…. at times I have recommended that a business owner learn how to write a blog or do a video every couple of weeks; instead of forcing them to use a network they don’t like or understand. Let’s face it, if you don’t use Facebook EVER, me teaching you how to create and run a Facebook business page is not going to work… you will not keep it up, trust me I know this from helping hundreds of small business owners who just don’t see the value or point in the end. Mostly because it’s foreign to them…

If you can pick one network and commit to it, you are well on your way to creating a social footprint on the world-wide-web.

In the long run it is going to come down to creating killer content, and as the days go by it is becoming more difficult to be the only creative wheel working these networks…. unless???? you start looking to the people who help make up your successful business.

Look at it this way, if you are creating all the content, you just might be catering to one audience, if you open up to all the different personalities in your work place, you inevitably will pique the interest of new followers, visitors, Likes or connections..

Now it is said that you don’t own Twitter or Facebook, so what do you own?

Your website and your e-mail data base!!

That’s right the only thing you still own today is your e-mail data base and your website. Therefore it would make sense to create your own e-mail campaigns and drive traffic to your website when ever possible.

On at least 8 out of 10 of your postings you should ask people to click here

(This is where you would add a link back to your products or service, make me excited in the opening status or posting.. why should I click here? You also need to track this link for metrics which will then tell you if anyone is clicking the link or not… I like to use Bitly.com )

Bitly is a URL shortening and bookmarketing service, the largest link sharing network on the web. After you have set up a free account it will track the click throughs for each Link you shorten…Just adding a regular link is usually too long… Here is an example of my website url: https://www.keepitsimplesocialmedia.com/events  now when I use bitly this is how much shorter it gets: http://bit.ly/16QJrLu You can even customize your new link…

The whole point of being on social media is to eventually do business with your followers or at the least keep your business top of mind for when people need your products or service.

So where is social media today?

Great question, one thing we know for sure is Change is Constant with social media. We need to be proactive, consistent and of value.. we need to learn how to convert the eyeballs and bring them into our stores to buy our products and purchase them on-line.. we need to be creative today and inclusive…we need to simplify the process by using third-party apps LIKE  HootSuite … we need to schedule posts on Facebook for the days we are too busy to get on-line…( BTW – I never use a third-party app on Facebook…everything I do on Facebook is in real-time and from the Facebook website itself)

We are either growing or dying in life, so it’s probably better for you to keep learning, and be curious, work together and try to enjoy the journey.. don’t forget we are all in this together.

Cheers!
