Our choice was La Rua – Day 2 of the 2010 Olympics
La Rua is proud to be one of the”Top Mountain” restaurants in North America and in the top 100 restaurants to dine at in Canada. What makes La Rua so special besides the award winning dishes is Mario Enero the restaurants fabulous owner; Mario is a wonderful natured gentleman who has continuously given with a community spirit to Whistler. If Mario is in the restaurant while you are dinning he might drop by to make sure you are enjoying your evening.
One other little secret to our fabulous evening was having Dave Foran as our server… and if you follow my blog you might remember that Dave is Whistler’s sommelier of the Year…
La Rua is one of those restaurants that could be classed as a romantic hideaway or a fun-filled room with the whose who of Whistler……. Saturday night was both, and a very exciting evening for everyone in the room as the televisions stayed tuned to the 2010 Olympics.. It was so thrilling to be in the village and having a dinner party with 100 other guests….
First course: Oysters and Piper Heidsieck Champagne – followed by a delicious light garlic caesar salad and Pacific seared scallops with serrano ham, endive, oven dried tomatoes and olive oil…Absolutely melt in your mouth perfection.
Main Course: Interesting that we ordered the same main course as we did weeks earlier at the Rim Rock, but nice to know the consistency in food throughout Whistler is amazing… La Rua’s chef RD Stewart did not let us down, both meals were cooked with precision skill, my rack of lamb was prepared with a peppercorn shallot sauce accompanied by garlic mashed potatoes and crisp young vegetables. The grilled sirloin BC venison was drizzled with a raspberry juniper sauce….
We allowed our fabulous server and Sommelier of the year Dave to choose the wine for the evening…I knew his choice would be exact…We had recently tried the Treana White and on this night we were trying the Treana Red…I loved it’s rich thick flavor…a bold and vibrant wine.
The goal of Treana Red is to deliver, vintage after vintage, the best Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine in Paso Robles. Blended with Syrah for a complete, mouth-filling experience, Treana Red is crafted to keep company with any wine from any region at any price point on the world stage.
We cooled our palate with a mix of Pineapple/Mango/Coconut sorbet which was refreshing and a surprise to me… I really enjoyed the smooth cool richness, sweet yet not filling. Dave’s choice on the dessert wine was once again perfection Moscato D ‘Asti Batasiolo.
To cap off our evening and give us a boost out the door we order three Pick-Me-Ups or Intermissions and moved our party into the lounge where by now there was a crowd gathering…. We had a fabulous evening and I must say you have to make a point of having dinner at La Rua… It is an absolute pleasure the staff are friendly, funny and alive! We were made to feel like family…
Total cost for our phenomenal dinner with 20% tip –$380.00
(La Rua has parking underground)
