Recently I had some comments that I should include a few tips on things people never think to ask – until they need the information when walking through the village in Whistler… Here you have a few in no particular order…
#1. Where do you find public bathrooms?
I believe during the Olympic period you will find more than enough outhouse style bathrooms…but if you are in the village there are a few places you could go…no pun intended.
I have often used Maurice Young Millennium Place located near the Brew House Pub. Just up the stroll from there near Rogers Chocolates on the same side are two public washrooms and you can see the signs from the village stroll pointing them out. The Carleton Lodge has bathrooms down in the basement and the TELUS Conference Centre also has a few bathrooms.
Every coffee shop and restaurant has them – but not all of them are functioning…I find that unusual and wrong.
I know when I volunteered for years at the Olympic Bid office – as we called it – people came in thinking we had a washroom – funny thing was we never had any running water there.
All the parks have public facilities and of course Meadow Park Sports Center have a washroom or two.
#2. The Library….In January of 2008 Whistler opened its doors to a new public Library located conveniently near the village center at 4329 Main Street. The library also has bathrooms.
The library will be closed:
- New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2009
- Easter Weekend, April 10, 12, & 13, 2009
- Victoria Day, May 18, 2009
- Canada Day, July 1, 2009
- BC Day, August 3, 2009
- Labour Day, September 7, 2009
- Thanksgiving Day, October 12, 2009
- Remembrance Day, November 11, 2009
- Christmas Holiday, December 25 & 26, 2009
- New Year’s Day, January 1, 2010
#3. I find picking up a local paper “The Question” or “The Pique News Magazine” to be very handy – they both can be found in racks throughout the village and on the outskirts at a variety of places. It probably is best to go on-line and read up on the local events – before you go… Both papers talk about local issues, whats going on, and of course the letters to the editor are a must read….
#4. Last but certainly not least are Whistler’s Churches…something near and dear to my heart….
The Whistler Village Church – located in Maurice Young Millennium Place (My Place) has a service the 2nd Sunday of every month 10am. http://bit.ly/8AfxFW
